If you love the thought of building your own home, then take a look at this great lot in the gated subdivision Stonecrest at Lake Lure. Only two miles from Lake Lure and less than 20 minutes to the new Tryon International Equestrian Center it’s the perfect place to build a dream home — on a lot that is heavily discounted. It’s listed at $44,500. (The lot sold several years ago for over twice that).

Perfect for your dream home. A lot on the same street recently sold and the new owner’s built a beautiful log cabin — you could do the same thing!

Stonecrest at Lake Lure is conveniently located to the Ingles grocery store, schools and medical services. The best part of this lot – it’s priced less than tax value. It’s a great deal!! Get ready to build your new home – and enjoy the Lake Lure lifestyle!!

Million Dollar View on Lake Lure for $699,000 – Unbelievable

By Jan Westmark

IMG_9373

So many people arrive in Lake Lure on house hunting trips with two requests: to be on the water and have a view of the mountains! While it’s quite possible, it’s also costly.

A stunning view of the mountains has been dubbed a “million dollar view.” I’m excited to tell you about a house on the water – on a main channel of the lake – that has a million dollar view and is being offered at $699,000. The 3/2 home is stunning – right along with its stunning view. The house was fully rebuilt in 2009 on its 1966 foundation. New retaining walls and stone was added in 2015. All you need to do is tie your boats to the dock and start enjoying life – and your million dollar view!

The house also has room for 4 to 5 cars to park (sometimes parking can be tight along the lake) so that all of your family and friends can enjoy your lake house, boats and the view. Large glass windows show off the view from inside of the house and two giant porches give you the chance to sit outside and take in beautiful Lake Lure!! National Geographic named Lake Lure one of the 10 Most Beautiful Man Made Lakes in the WORLD – and you could have it all for $699,000. Unbelievable. Let me know if you want to see it. One thing you won’t miss while we see it: The Million Dollar View!!!

Top Ten Best Things About Western North Carolina Mountains

By Jan Westmark

I was sad to see David Letterman retire recently. I will miss his Top Ten list every night – so thought I would share a quick Top Ten on the Best Things about the Western North Carolina Mountains. There are way more than 10 – but let’s just say I had to come up with photos that matched – so I kept it at 10.

10. Asheville. It’s a quirky and fascinating city with amazing restaurants and lots of fun events. The Grove Park Inn is a great place to visit and of course don’t miss the Biltmore Estate if you are in the area. But the reason I like Asheville (and the Western North Carolina Mountains) – you can grow blueberries – from Asheville to Lake Lure to Tryon!! These are from my blueberry bushes and I had them for breakfast!

9. Black Mountain. Another great little town to visit. Cherry Street is filled with wonderful stores. Lake Tomahawk is a beautiful lake with walking trails around it. I had dinner at a friend’s house in Black Mountain the other night and this was the view from her back porch. (The views in all of Western North Carolina are pretty amazing!) Living here makes you feel like you are on top of the world.

IMG_9739

8. Chimney Rock. If we are going to talk about great views – then we must talk about Chimney Rock. The movie “The Last of the Mohicans” was filmed there – and it gives you a fabulous view of Lake Lure. Lots of hiking trails in the park and the cute little town of Chimney Rock has great restaurants and shopping.

7. It’s a dog friendly area! The towns in the Western North Carolina Mountains are very dog friendly – from the restaurants to the hiking – you can bring your dog along!! It might be a dog-eat-dog world in other places, but here in the mountains it’s just a dog-love-dog world!!

6. Picnics and hiking in the mountains. It’s easy to get off the beaten path in this area – or get on the Blue Ridge Parkway and head up to Mt. Mitchell. Or take a boat out on Lake Lure and eat a picnic in your boat! Two great things that are great together!!

5. You can own a house on Lake Lure for under $700,000. That’s amazing! National Geographic named Lake Lure one of the Top Ten Most Beautiful Man-Made Lakes in the World. I love it!!!! And you will love Lake Lure also! Here’s a house for $699,000 that’s actually on the lake – take your boat right out of your house and onto the lake!!

4. The wildlife. The Western North Carolina Mountains are full of wildlife – from deer and bears to gorgeous flowers. You can enjoy the wildlife hiking, driving or even by visiting the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge in Lake Lure. And, yes, I took this photo of a bear from my car.

3. Waterfalls and lakes. It’s that simple – they are beautiful and they are everywhere!! And the view when the leaves are changing – fabulous!

2. Tryon. It’s horse country and it’s all about the horses. The Tryon International Equestrian Center is all new and all amazing. The official opening was last week and it was packed with 10,000 people. If you want to call it the Disney World for horse people, you can. And you would be right!

1. And the #1 best thing about Western North Carolina – LAKE LURE!! The movie “Dirty Dancing” was filmed there, you can boat around the lake and even stop at a restaurant for lunch or dinner, you can hike, shop, or sit back and enjoy the life of luxury on the lake!!!

Don’t Miss the Summer In Lake Lure and Tryon

By Jan Westmark

Summertime in Lake Lure
Summertime in Lake Lure

I can’t believe it’s June already! Time sure flies, and has flown us right into a beautiful summer in Lake Lure and Tryon. The scenery in Lake Lure is breathtaking and taking a boat out on the lake is wonderful. If you don’t have your own boat you can take a boat tour or even rent a boat. Or for the more adventurous types, rent paddle boards, kayaks or canoes and paddle your way around the beautiful lake.

Tryon is just as beautiful in the summer — and it’s the perfect time to enjoy a Saturday night Grand Prix at the new Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC).  Next Saturday night, June 6th, is their official grand opening and will be an event to behold. I went this past Saturday night and enjoyed the entire event, from dinner at Roger’s Diner to the exciting Grand Prix.

If you’re in the Lake Lure or Tryon area let me know! Many horse show people are looking for houses to rent, especially on Lake Lure. (After a long day of showing the thought of relaxing on the water sounds great!) And it’s only a 20 minute drive from the show grounds to Lake Lure. I have several houses in the Lake Lure area that would make excellent rentals!

Enjoy your summer — wherever you are. And now enjoy some photos I took last week of summer in Lake Lure and Tryon!!

The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge – A Bright Spot in Lake Lure

FullSizeRender

By Jan Westmark

There are so many wonderful surprises in Lake Lure, North Carolina, and one of them is the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. When the 1925 Rocky Broad River bridge was closed to traffic in 2011, the Friends of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge came together to create gardens on 155 feet of the bridge.

In addition to the gorgeous flowers that adorn the bridge – you can take in great views of Chimney Rock, the mountains and the lake. Armed with my trusty iPhone, I took these photos while strolling across the bridge. Thank you to all who work hard at maintaining the beauty of this bridge — they call it the “Gateway to Somewhere Beautiful” and it is just that. Because Lake Lure is beautiful!!

And thank you flowers, for making my day bright! Enjoy the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge!

A Trip to Chimney Rock in North Carolina

Cross the bridge and enjoy a hike!
Cross the bridge into Chimney Rock and enjoy a hike!

By Jan Westmark

If you’re visiting Asheville, Lake Lure, Tryon or the new Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) in North Carolina, then make sure to take a side trip to Chimney Rock – you won’t be disappointed! It’s a cute little town, with a really big rock to climb.

Chimney Rock is only a few miles from Lake Lure (and if you visit the Flowering Bridge in Lake Lure, then Chimney Rock is just around the corner), and the cute little town is about 20 miles from Black Mountain, 25 miles from Asheville and about 25 miles from the new world-class horse show grounds. So you can zip over to Chimney Rock for the afternoon and enjoy the view of a lifetime!!

Hike to the top and enjoy the view!

Chimney Rock is a State Park in the Chimney Rock Village – nestled in Hickory Nut Gorge between the towns of Lake Lure and Bat Cave. I drive through the village on my way to the Lake Lure Keller Williams office and I love it. And little town that sells Fresh Fudge (yes I took a photo of the sign!) and has cute little stores and great restaurants is my kind of town.

Here are photos I took of Chimney Rock today – it’s a beautiful time of the year in the Western North Carolina Mountains. I’ll leave it to you to hike to the top and enjoy the 75-mile panoramic view of Lake Lure – and if you are in town looking for a lake house or in Tryon looking for a horse farm, give me a call. We can house/farm shop – and maybe visit Chimney Rock for some treats!! (I also know of restaurants and B&B’s for sale in Chimney Rock – if you want to start a new career). Also make sure to visit the http://www.chimneyrockpark.com website.

View of the estate from the lake

By Jan Westmark

If you’ve been dreaming about the most magnificent house on Lake Lure — the crown jewel of the lake — than dream no more! The crown jewel of the lake is for sale. This amazing lakefront estate is as unique as they come. The house’s massive cypress columns can be seen from the lake, along with the slide that zips guests into the lake.

The 5,788 square foot adirondack lodge style home features a two-story great room, cypress log staircase, limestone and chestnut floors, a gourmet chef kitchen, tumbled marble countertops, four fireplaces, and so much more. And the guest cottage is so lovely your guests won’t want to leave.

The lakefront estate sits on 1 acre with a lakeside hot tub, boulders surrounding a cascading waterfall and flagstone courtyard. It really is an architectural masterpiece. My photos don’t do it justice, so if you really want to dream big you will need to see the house for yourself. Don’t miss the opportunity to own the crown jewel of the lake. The house is offered at $2,749,000.
